Minister
Rev. Timothy Nelson B.A. (Hons) – Biography Timothy Nelson has been the Minister of Ballynahinch Free Presbyterian Church since January 2016 having accept the Lord’s call to move from Sixmilecross Free Presbyterian Church where he had been the Minister since 2005.
He came into fellowship in the Lurgan congregation as a teenager, and after graduating in English Language and Literature from Queens University, Belfast, entered the Theological Hall. In the latter part of this time of preparation, he served as Student Minister of Kesh, Co Fermanagh. He was ordained and installed in Rasharkin, Co Antrim. He was called to Ballymagerney in 2000, and after five years in Co Armagh, he removed to Sixmilecross in 2005 where he faithfully served the Lord until January 2016. Mr Nelson’s call to the Ministry, which came during the early part of his time at University, brought with it a challenge to maintain clear Gospel preaching and consistent teaching of the whole counsel of God, 2 Timothy 3:15, 4:4. This he has endeavoured to do.
He has lectured in the Whitefield College since 1998, first in New Testament Greek, and, since 2012, in Biblical Exegesis. In January 2018, he was appointed Principal of the College.
He is a member of the College Academic and Management Committees, and the Publications and Media Committee, having previously served on its Education, Book of Order, Finance, and Examination Committees. He was Presbytery Minute Secretary for six years from January 2008.
He was the initial editor of the denomination’s relaunched official organ, Free Presbyterian Vision, holding the position from 2012-18. He had a similar role with Let the Bible Speak Quarterly for ten years.
